Caltrain

Also: peninsula, san jose, gilroy

The railway down the Peninsula, from San Francisco to San Jose, with a few trains on to Gilroy.

Example

Train 148

A train number as Trainiac shows it. An example, not a real record.

Caltrain runs along the west side of the bay, between San Francisco and San Jose. Since September 2024 those trains are electric: double-deck Stadler KISS units, taking their power from overhead wires.

South of San Jose the wires stop. A few diesel trains carry on to Gilroy on weekdays, and you change between the two at San Jose.

Every Caltrain train has a train number, and it’s the same number in the public timetable, on the platform screens and in the data. That’s the number Trainiac shows.

In Trainiac
