The Bay Area’s travel information service, and the one place every operator’s data can be fetched from.
511 is the Bay Area’s travel information service, run by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission. The Bay Area has more than twenty transit operators, and 511 gathers all their timetables and live predictions in one place.
Its open data is free. You ask for a key, and the key lets you fetch each operator’s timetable and trip updates, a limited number of times an hour.
That limit is why Trainiac asks every two and a half minutes rather than every few seconds.
